I didn’t want to go far, plus I had hardly any money. I didn’t want to go anywhere too foreign, I wanted to ease into this whole travelling overseas thing. So where did I go? NEW ZEALAND! It’s only a few hours away by plane and very similar to Australia in many ways…. Well, at least that is what I thought. I knew it was going to be beautiful, but mannn I was absolutely blown away! Every corner we turned, there was something that had me in awe.
We flew into Queenstown and planned on staying there for 5 days before heading on to other places and ending in Christchurch (we stayed two weeks in total). We only stayed in Queenstown 2 nights before getting too antsy and wanting to move on to see more that NZ had to offer. We had a hire car and a phone with internet which allowed us to change bookings and find new places to stay (HOORAY!). We ended up visiting Lake Wanaka, Milford Sound, Te Anau, The Catlins, Dunedin and finally Christchurch.
For anybody who suffers from travel anxiety, whether you live in the USA, UK, AUS, wherever – I highly recommend hitting up New Zealand for your first adventure. It is such an easy place to travel around and there is beauty no matter where you go. Whether travelling solo, in a group or with one other person, there is so much to keep you excited over there. Perhaps one of the downsides is that it can be quite expensive, especially compared to travelling in places such as those is Asia – But New Zealand has some of the safest hostels and backpackers to stay in, so there are really many options to cater for different budgets.
- Kayaking on Milford Sound!

I can not wait to get back to New Zealand in the near future. This time I will likely stay a little longer and explore a LOT more now that I feel more comfortable doing so. I can not wait to see the North Island too 😀
See ya soon NZ!
